Background Web

With the “Background Web” feature, you can set any web pages (sites) from the Internet as your Windows desktop background.

By default, Desktop Lux uses the Microsoft Edge browser engine to display web pages. If your system does not have an appropriate component to launch the Microsoft Edge engine (see details below) or it does not start for some other technical reason, then the Internet Explorer browser engine will be used to display web pages. After checking the "Enable" checkbox on the "Background Web " tab of the Desktop Lux program, at the bottom of this tab the engine of which browser is currently being used is indicated.

Note that Internet Explorer is outdated and may not display some web pages correctly. In Desktop Lux, it is only used as a fallback. We strongly discourage using Internet Explorer. For information on how to configure Microsoft Edge to work if it doesn't launch by default, see below.

For Desktop Lux to use the Microsoft Edge browser engine, you must have the Microsoft Edge WebView2 runtime installed on your system. Most modern systems already have WebView2 installed by default, either as a separate component “Microsoft Edge WebView2 Runtime” or as part of the Microsoft Edge web browser. Therefore, for the normal operation of this function from you, most likely, no additional action is required.

If Microsoft Edge WebView2 runtime is not installed on your system, then you can download and install it yourself as a separate component "Microsoft Edge WebView2 runtime", or as part of the Microsoft Edge web browser.
